Haleh Mashian, a local Santa Monica artist, will present a solo art show, Surpass, at a pop-up gallery in Santa Monica. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, November 2, from 5:30–10:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 2903 Santa Monica Blvd.in Santa Monica.
Haleh Mashian’s work has been celebrated for her colorful landscape, figurative, and abstract paintings. Her Trees Series resonates with a profound visual message of honoring the natural terrain. Her work transposes the invisible within the visible of the terrestrial kingdom, using tonal combinations to reveal the eternal quality of nature. With Surpass, Mashian invites the viewer to rejoice in the splendor of the world, bringing together a collection of acrylic and mixed-media works on canvas that explore the abstract whimsy of our immediate surroundings, and an astute observation of the world around us. This body of work employs a ritualistic technique of scraped-off and reapplied paint layers, and alludes to the similarities between color theory and musical composition (Mashian is also an accomplished composer). Mashian merges theory with instinct, ultimately transcending visual boundaries and bringing all the senses to her work.
Iranian born and fluent in five languages, Haleh Mashian is a Los Angeles–based artist who, for the past 18 years, has been translating into visual form her inner expression and sense of intuition. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from USC, and has been developing her practice and exploration of color and shape in her studio in Santa Monica. Previous exhibitions include: James Gray Gallery, Brentwood Art Show, Venice Art Walk, Beverly Hills Art Show, Townley Gallery, and Book Bindery.
The pop-up exhibition is on view November 2–November 14, 2013. Gallery hours are 11:00am – 5:00pm Monday through Friday or by appointment on Sundays and evenings.
