Thirty years of research by Ernest Marquez has informed this at times incredible tale of floating gambling halls, mobsters, murder and mayhem at the three-mile limit off the coast of early 20th century Santa Monica. This ‘true crime’ 30 years in the making, Marquez’s non-fiction story follows the decade-long battle between Tony Cornero, king of the “rum-runners”, and eager law enforcement officials bent on cleaning up corruption in a yarn filled with as much drama as any episode of “The Sopranos”.
