We were thrilled to attend the l6th Annual Les Girls Cabaret at the Avalon Hollywood to support the National Breast Cancer Coalition. A score of top entertainment personalities (all performing gratis) including Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”), Steven Weber (“Wings” and “2 Broke Girls”) and Sharon Lawrence (“Shameless”) were on hand sharing their musical chops to support the cause. Do you know the Coalition has vowed to end breast cancer in 2020? Fran Visco, the Founder and President was named by Science Magazine as “the most influential non-scientist ever in the field of research”; and nearly $3 billion in research grants were awarded to defeat this dreaded disease. Our money is on this plucky lady.
The popular cabaret was hosted by Ari Granynor (“The Sopranos” and “For a Good Time Call”) and some of the wild and crazy standout performances included “Broadway Baby” by Beth Grant (“The Mindy Project”) “Maybe This Time,” warbled by Lea Thompson (“Back to the Future” and “Switched at Birth”), and who knew Barrett Foa, nerdy Tech Wizard (“NCIS, LA”) could rap Gangsta Style? The climax of the exciting evening was Joey McIntyre (New Kids on the Block) who belted out “Don’t Rain on my Parade” and believe me, no one ever will!
Over 900 guests were on hand at the Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors Ball at the Beverly Hilton. Adele and Benny Alagem (owners of the Beverly Hilton and the new Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills) received the Philanthropic Award; and Sylvester Stallone was honored as the Heart of Hollywood. Who can deny “Rocky’s” huge heart, and we know personally that the Coach for Kids program at Cedars Sinai, is a huge part of his charitable portfolio.
The event was hosted by Jay Leno, who quipped: “It is now late October, and we are haunted by monsters and other terrifying creatures. But don’t worry, in 19 days the election will be over.” Kudos to event chairs, Paul Guerin and Robert Barth. And, of course, “Glee” sensation Matthew Morrison, who dazzled the audience with his renditions of “Uptown Funk” and “It’s All Right With Me.”
The best news is that over $15 million was raised to fund their spectacular new Regenerative Medicine Institute. For further info on how you can become involved, please call 310.423.7471.
