The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Los Angeles County held steady at 7.6 percent in April compared to the previous month, the state Employment Development Department reported today.
The 7.6 percent rate was well below the 8.4 percent rate from April 2014.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, down slightly from 4.4 percent in March.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for California was 6.3 percent in April, down from 6.5 percent in March and below the 7.8 percent rate in April 2014. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5.4 percent in April, 5.5 percent in March and 6.2 percent a year ago.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment increased in Los Angeles County by 9,600 jobs between March and April to reach more than 4.3 million.
The leisure and hospitality sector posted the largest month-over-month gain, adding 4,300 jobs, according to the EDD.
About 384,000 people were unemployed in April in Los Angeles County, which has a workforce of about 5 million.
