Fans of the Runyon Canyon hiking trail better get their fill by the end of the day, since the pathway will be closing tomorrow for four months.
The trail will be closed until roughly July 31 to accommodate repair work on a roughly one-mile stretch of a 6-inch Department of Water and Power water pipe.
“Public safety is the overarching reason to begin immediate work on this critical infrastructure project,” City Councilman David Ryu said. “This temporary closure, while inconvenient, is absolutely necessary in order to keep the surrounding neighborhoods safe by improving the the park’s fire and flood protection systems.”
Runyon Canyon is one of the city’s most popular hiking spots, thanks to its sweeping views of the city and the nearby Hollywood sign. A yoga field at the park will remain open during the pipe-repair project.
City officials previously released a list of nearby parks with similar hiking trails and recreational opportunities. They include:
–Franklin Canyon Park, 2600 Franklin Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills;
–Fryman Canyon Park, 8401 Mulholland Drive in Studio City;
–Hollywood Reservoir, 6399 Weidlake Drive in Hollywood;
–Wilacre Park, 12601 Mulholland Drive in Studio City.
