Photos from Mayor Eric Garcetti’s popular Instagram feed will be featured in a downtown Los Angeles art gallery show set to open on September 19.
The “MAYOR_OF_INSTAGRAM” show features 96 photos taken by the mayor and posted on his Instagram account. It will be on display until Oct. 31 at photographer Gary Leonard’s Take My Picture art gallery.
Garcetti’s photos have previously garnered attention from the New York Times and other national media outlets for being unusually artful for having been taken by a political figure.
The photo prints will be available for purchase, with sale proceeds to benefit the Los Angeles Public Library’s Photo Friends archival photo project and the nonprofit Homeless Health Care Los Angeles.
The mayor’s-eye-view photos feature quiet moments from his day-to-day mayoral engagements, as well as some more historic moments such in a photo taken from the tarmac where President Barack Obama’s Air Force One plane has just landed.
The show can be viewed at his gallery, at 109 W. 9th St., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, and during the regularly hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
Leonard, who organized the show, is a local photographer known for his long-time documentation of everyday life and local figures in Los Angeles.
