Thursday’s death of a man in front of an Amtrak train was a suicide, and the Coroner’s Office today publicly identified the man walked in front of the approaching train in Chatsworth.
Truong Leonard Van, 22, of Winnetka, killed himself about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, near De Soto and Prairie avenues, said Coroner’s Lt. Dave Smith.
Van was walking on the tracks when he was struck, Officer Jack Richter of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section said.
The train was the northwest-bound Pacific Surfliner from San Diego and Los Angeles, with 135 passengers on board, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.
