Over 130 potential human trafficking suspects and victims were taken into custody during a city-wide enforcement operation this week, according to Los Angeles police.
The operation, which focused on the rescue and recovery of sexually exploited children, took place over three days beginning January 23, according to the LAPD.
Six suspected pimps were arrested and nine minors “who had been trafficked for the purposes of sexual slavery” were rescued, according to the LAPD.
“The suspects were arrested on human trafficking-related charges that include supervising for the purposes of prostitution or on outstanding warrants,” according to a police statement.
The county probation department and FBI also assisted in the operation, police said.
“All recovered minors were placed in protective custody and will receive assistance and social services from (the county) Department of Children and Family Services and non-governmental organizations,” police said.
All identified victims regardless of age received appropriate victim services, according to the LAPD.
