The City of Malibu has been accepted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as an ambassador for their latest initiative, Weather Ready Nation.
This initiative is a new effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events.
Currently certified by NOAA as a Storm Ready city, the City of Malibu is committing to working with NOAA and other ambassadors to improve community resilience in the face of increasing vulnerability to extreme weather and water events.
“As a partner in this program, the City of Malibu strives to motivate residents and businesses to take actions that will make themselves better prepared in the event of a weather-related disaster,” said Emergency Services Coordinator Brad Davis. “Increased weather awareness and preparedness can save lives and protect against weather-related damage at home, in schools, and in the workplace.”
The City encourages residents to consider purchasing a NOAA weather radio to for emergency weather information, including tsunami watches. These radios are available on-line and at retail stores.
