The men’s and women’s gymnastics teams at Broadway Gymnastics School (BGS) just completed their 2012-2013 competitive seasons with amazing leaps of improvements. Several gymnasts were able to obtain scores high enough to skip levels due to all the new skills they learned since the last competitive season while winning numerous individual medals and team trophies!
BGS Boys Team
Junior Olympic (JO) Men’s National Championships were held in Portland, OR May 2-5, 2013. BGS’s Level 10 (L10) gymnasts, Jake Feldmann of Pacific Palisades and Jonathan Chin of Santa Monica, both qualified to and participated in the Junior Elite (JE) category, competing Technical Sequence (TS) routines on each of the 6 events at State, Regionals and Nationals. Chin qualified to compete his TS at JO Nationals and is now ranked 30th in the Nation for the USA Gymnastics JE Program 17-18 age category and has just been accepted to University of Michigan Mens Gymnastics Team.
Feldmann qualified to event finals on Rings and Vault in the JO category and is now ranked 44th in the Nation for the USA Gymnastics JO Program in the 16 age category.
At Men’s Region 1 Championships in Reno, NV April 7th, Chin won 3rd All-Around (AA), 2nd on Parallel Bars (PB) and 4th on Floor Exercise (FX) in his TS routines. At Men’s State Championships in Aliso Viejo March 17th BGS’s L10 Team won Bronze and Chin took the 2nd Place AA L10 Elite Title qualifying to the All-Star State Team.
At Broadway’s Annual Peter Vidmar Invitational March 1-3, 2013, L10 wins include J Chin’s 1st on Vault and 3rd on Rings and TS routines winning 1st on PB and AA, 2nd on FX and 3rd on Rings and HB; Thomas Chin of Santa Monica won 3rd AA in TS and 4th on FX, Vault, Rings and PB; and Feldmann TS wins include 1st on FX and Rings and 3rd on Vault.
Level 5 (L5) Alex Goldberg of Santa Monica also won Bronze on Rings. At SoCal Men’s Gymnastics N. Conference Championships in February, BGS’s L9 and 10 Teams won Gold, L5 Team took Silver and the Level 6 (L6) and Level 7 (L7) Teams took Bronze! L10 T Chin won 1st AA, Feldmann won 2nd AA, and Chin took 3rd AA.
BGS Girls Team
Level 9 Western Championships were held in Roseville, CA May 2-5, 2013. Caroline Spertus of Brentwood won Silver on Balance Beam (BB) and Thea Obrist of West Los Angeles won Bronze on Vault. At L9 Region 1 Championships in Pheonix, AZ, Obrist won Gold on Uneven Bars (UB) and 3rd on Vault; Spertus took Gold on Floor Exercise (FX) and Cydney Kone of West Los Angeles won Bronze on BB. At SoCal’s State Championships held in Long Beach, CA, Spertus also won the Silver State L9 Vault Title.
At L7 Region 1 Championships April 26-27 in Nevada, Remi Godinez of Brentwood took 2nd on BB, FX and AA and qualified to compete for SoCal’s Regional Team, which won 1st! At California Classics last March, L10 Madison DeYoung of Santa Monica won 2nd on BB and 3rd on Vault and FX and L9 Obrist took 2nd on Vault and UB. L7 Godinez won 1st on UB, FX and AA, 2nd on BB and 3rd on Vault and Tessa Gluckman (L7) of Santa Monica took 2nd on Vault.
At BGS’s Pacific Sun Classic in April, the Broadway Girls Level 4 Team took 1st Place and the L5 and L6 Teams took both placed 2nd! At Brestyan’s Invitational last February BGS’s L9 Team won 2nd and the L10 and 8 Teams both took 3rd! In Addition to these amazing team accomplishments the L9 Team also won Bronze at both Chris Waller’s Heart of a Champion Invite and the San Diego Classic Nastia Qualifier.
