Now in its third year, LA Tri Club’s Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge (C2C) is a unique aquatic charity event held to heighten awareness of drowning, the leading cause of death of children 14 and younger in California and to combat this problem locally by raising funds to provide free swim instruction for under-served LA kids.
On Sunday, June 2, 2013 5:30am – 6:00pm, swimmers of all ages and abilities will unite in a marathon of lap swimming at the Culver City Plunge, 4175 Overland Avenue in Culver City. It doesn’t how fast you are or how many laps you swim, everyone who participates in the C2C is part of a winning campaign that in its first two years has raised more than $40,000 and taught 1,450 kids how to swim and be safe in the water.
“The Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge gives people a chance to have fun and get a great workout at one of the Southland’s top aquatic centers while raising funds to provide free swim instruction for kids who otherwise could not afford lessons,†said Larry Turkheimer LA Tri Club co-founder.
The C2C also offers participants the opportunity to workout with elite coaches who will be on deck throughout the day. The event is entirely underwritten by the LA Tri Club and sponsors; 100% of the proceeds from the event will go toward swim lessons aimed at reducing child-drowning accidents in Los Angeles.
C2C participants sign up for one or more 30-minute stages and will receive lane assignments with swimmers of similar speed. Long-distance swimmers who want to rack up extra miles for the cause can register for 75 spots exclusively reserved for “Launchers†and “Closers.â€
Entry prices are as follows:
30-minute swim ONE STAGE $25

60-minute swim TWO STAGES $35
90-minute swim THREE STAGES $45

Launchers & Closers (5:00am-8:00am or 3:00pm – 6:00pm) $65
The day’s festivities will include prize drawings, sponsor booths and a fitness expo.
