Nick Busco received his first camera as a gift at just ten years old. His Kodak brownie mad him realize how much he loved to take photos. He continued to follow his passion in high school but became serious about his photography at Emerson College, where he spent late nights working in the dark room developing black and white photos.
“I read books about photography and tried the techniques I learned from those books,†Busco explains. “I started taking pictures of friends, family, moments in time, and went on to experiment with light and exposures.“
He moved to California and joined Rod Stewart’s road crew changing the focus of his work to music legends and moved up becoming a lighting designer for the likes of Bonnie Raitt, the Clarke/Duke Project, George Duke and Stanley Clark.
Busco later started a video and live event production company and worked with many high end corporate clients such as IBM, Apple, Merck, HP, Honda, Mazda, Kia, and others all the while continuing to shoot both photographs and video.
His most recent project was photographing Toots Hibbert, from Toots and the Maytals. “Toots was doing an acoustic set at the Belly-up, in Solana Beach…His manager, my old roommate from college, asked me to come on down and take a few shots. They are using previous images of Toots for promotions, on this tour that were taken at the drum circle in Venice back in 2010,†says Busco. Yamaha Music division will be using some of the photos from that show at the Belly-up for their promotions.
Also on view at Figtree Café, 429 Ocean Front Walk in Venice 6:00pm – 9:00pm on Thursday December 20, 2012 will be artists Peter Padmapuzzo Thompson and Scott Tansey.
