Latina actress, stand-up comic, certified laughter leader, breast cancer survivor and awareness advocate Katy Franco will discuss her book “Chemorella,†Saturday, October 20, from 2:00pm – 5:00pm at Meltdown Comics & Collectibles, 7522 W. Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles,
“Chemorella,†subtitled “Quimiorela,†is a modern retelling of the Cinderella story; here the heroine beats cancer and sees all her dreams come true. It’s full of beautiful illustrations and is bilingual, with English and Spanish side by side. It has been reviewed as “Inspiring, hysterically clever and uplifting.â€
Meet the people who made this book happen: Co-author Katy Franco, the screamingly funny Puerto Rican stand-up comic who Women’s Health magazine calls “the Cause Comedienne” (October 2012). A breast cancer survivor, s
he’ll speak about how she went from comic to Chemorella to breast cancer awareness activist. Expect to laugh and cry; if you have kids, bring them for the laughs. Also present will be illustrator Scott Sackett and Ken Phillips, Katy Franco’s husband and co-author. The authors are princiapals in Beverly Hills-based Franco-Phillips Publishers.
