Senior Lead Officer Phil Enbody has served as Brentwood’s SLO for six years, with 27 years service at West Los Angeles Police Department and will be retiring at the end of October. President Nancy Freedman presented him with a cake decorated with his picture and Jeff Hall, presented him with a blow up front page article from the paper. The headline was changed to read, “It’s Official: Brentwood Loves Phil Enbody.â€
Former SLO Dan Hinman joined the BCC with anecdotes and gentle ribbing, and the Brentwood Community wishes him well.
Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s Field Deputy, Joaquin Macias, presented a commendation to Enbody on behalf of the Los Angeles City Council.
Dan Martin of the Martin Cadillac Automotive Group located at the corner of Bundy Drive and Olympic Blvd since 1975, is in the preliminary planning stages for a remodel. Nancy Freedman introduced Erica Kopmar from Food Forward, an organization that harvests backyard fruit and vegetables and distributes it to area food banks. If you have fruit trees and would like Food Forward to have any excess fruit, go to: www.foodforward.org.
Joaquin Macias explained that Councilman Bill Rosendahl is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy for cancer, but has returned to work with a limited public schedule to reserve his strength.
Mike Bonin, Bill Rosendahl’s Chief of Staff, thanked the community for their support for Councilman Rosendahl while he is battling his illness. Bonin is acting surrogate in the wake of his treatment. As everyone knows, Rosendahl has decided to not run for a third term and has endorsed his chief of staff, Mike Bonin.
Bonin discussed some of the projects the councilman is working on, including mass transit, infrastructure and the LAX modernization project. The councilman has also worked hard on homelessness for veterans in WLA, fire fighting infrastructure, to ease traffic jams during presidential visits and making cell towers less unsightly.
Macias reported that Carmageddon II went as planned. The BCC requested traffic officers to help on Sunset. Sunset Safety week is waiting for a new date from local schools. A multi-agency meeting with the CHP and the LAPD is going to discuss speeding motorcycles on Sunset as well.
The LAFD wants helipads near the Bel Air Sky Crest neighborhood and is engaged in talks with Los Angeles County.
Assemblyman Mike Feuer addressed the BCC for the last time as Assemblyman. Feuer is now running for Los Angeles City Attorney. Feuer reiterated his record and said his biggest issues were education, transportation, public safety and the environment.
The BCC presented Assemblyman Feuer with a commendation, and Jeff Hall presented him with a blow up of a 2007 cover from the Brentwood News that had a picture of Feuer on it.
BCC member Leeor Alpern introduced Cosette Park, Interim Deputy Executive Officer, Grants for Metro, to discuss Measure J, a ballot measure that extends the half-cent sales tax approved in Measure R in 2008 for another 30 years to accelerate the completion of seven transit projects. The Brentwood Community Council voted to endorse Measure J with eight in favor; four opposed and three abstentions.
Brentwood Art School reopened on October 1 and a bike committee was formed to encourage more bikes. Save the Coral Trees have sprinklers turned off on the median and plan to replace one third of the median with mulch to help the drainage of the soil. They are seeking donations.
The BCC wants citizens who are “CERT†certified ID’d in case of a disaster. Peter Brown from Save the Westside said they are concerned about the JMB Office Complex proposal in Century City. See www.SaveTheWestside.org
Brentwood Village holiday party benefiting Toys for Tots will be held December 15 and will raise money for Fire Station No. 19.
The BCC November meeting is cancelled for Election Day. The next meeting will be on December 4 and will feature student awards.
