Hundreds of posters, lobby cards, stills and memorabilia from a private collection of Howard Hughes/RKO movies will be sold on October 2, 2012 6:30pm – 9:30pm at the Promenade at Howard Hughes Center in Los Angeles. The event will benefit Youth Opportunities United, a non-profit organization that has provided scholarships, art education and support to Los Angeles foster youth for over twenty years.
The collection offered for sale is as varied as Hughes’ life. He was equally famous as businessman, aviator and filmmaker, and posters for sale from his films include noir titles such as The Racket (1926) and Bunco Squad (1950), aviation classics Hell’s Angels (1930) and Flying Leathernecks (1951), comedies such as Susan Slept Here (1954) and Hughes’ most well-know films The Outlaw (1943), Scarface (1932) and Macao (1952).
This one-night-only event will allow attendees to view the entire collection while enjoying appetizers and drinks. A live auction of a select group of posters will start at 7:30 p.m. Other posters, lobby cards, stills and memorabilia will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
All proceeds will go directly to Youth Opportunities United in support of its scholarship and art education program, Animagination.
Youth Opportunities United, Inc. was established in 1988 at the request of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to supplement the service of the County’s Department of Children’s Services to the tens of thousands of abused and neglected children which the Department served.
