On Friday, May 25, 2012 at 7:30pm, the American Cinematheque at the Aero Theatre, 1328 Montana Ave at 14th Street in Santa Monica will screen a 70mm print of WEST SIDE STORY the MGM, 1961, 151 minute classic co-directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, with Natalie Wood as the lovely Maria and Richard Beymer as her star-crossed lover Tony.
Leonard Bernstein’s soaring, instantly memorable score, with lyrics by a young Stephen Sondheim, stands as one of the finest ever written for the American musical theater.
Producer and poster designer Mike Kaplan will introduce the program by showing some images from “Gotta Dance: The Art of the Dance Film Poster,†a major exhibit of his vintage movie poster collection, on view May 17 through September 23, 2012 at the California Heritage Museum in Santa Monica.
