Kathleen Contreras, author of the bilingual children’s book Braids/Trencitas, will be here to help us celebrate. The author will be reading from her book. There will also be games, literacy-related prizes, and a craft, as well as a book-signing immediately following the event. The festivities will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00pm at the Fairview Branch Library, located at 2101 Ocean Park Blvd. in Santa Monica.
DÃa is a nationwide celebration of children, families and reading held annually on April 30th, although libraries sometimes celebrate the event on different dates during the month of April. DÃa was created for the purpose of bringing families together. It emphasizes literacy skills, and the importance of families, books and libraries in the lives of children of all cultural backgrounds.
This program is free and open to the public. The Santa Monica Public Library is wheelchair accessible. For special disabled services, call Library Administration at (310) 458-8606 one week prior to events. The Fairview library is served by Big Blue Bus line 8, and bike racks are available.
