The compositions of Los Angeles-born composer John Cage swirl with controversy, but few composers have been as influential in the dance, visual arts and musical worlds. His collaborations with Merce Cunningham, Robert Rauschenberg, Yoko Ono, and many others, are legendary. Hear for yourself a range of his works celebrating his centennial year.
One-6 and One-10 are a collaboration with artist Mineko Grimmer, who worked directly with Cage in designing two audio kinetic sculptures to accompany his music. Experience the first performance of a cycle of three works Cage intended to be heard together: Atlas Eclipticalis, Varations IV and 0’00†, representing the Hindu states of Nirvana, Samsara, and Individual Action.
Draw your own conclusions and hear these important works, alongside many others, at this national celebration of America’s groundbreaking composer, John Cage.
