I have personally been using Apple computers since my first Apple IIe and IIc, more years ago than I wish to acknowledge. I’ve been writing about technology for the Brentwood News for years and somehow, when it comes to technology worth writing about, I frequently write about Apple products. In my mind, Apple is synonymous with Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011 at the young age of 56. We have lost the Thomas Edison of our generation. Although Steve is gone, like Thomas Edison his accomplishments will be with us for generations to come. Steve was responsible for the creation of the iPod, the Macintosh computer, the iMac, the success of Pixar animation, the iPhone, the iPad, with more than 342 total US patent application to his name. He re-wrote the entire music industry with iTunes and the creation of digital downloads. He taught everyone that technology doesn’t have to be complicated, that it truly can just work. His management style, hands on from the top down has still yet to be duplicated. Steve was involved with the minutia at Apple, he was truly their head designer. His presentation style was so captivating, that CEO’s around the world study his Keynotes to try and get the same effect. When Steve took the stage, people sat up and paid attention. There is truly nobody with the stage presence of Steve Jobs. Steve also wasn’t afraid to take chances and take on entire industries, from the Music industry to the Cell phone industry. He also wasn’t afraid to ever say no. Steve has been quoted as saying “Focusing is about saying no.†No other company is more beloved than the company Steve started and ran, Apple, from its consumers to investors. Steve was such an important part of Apple, that anytime Steve took time off for his health; the company’s stock was affected. Even after Steve’s passing, investors are hoping that his influence will continue on at Apple. Steve Jobs is gone, however he and his work will never be forgotten. Anytime you touch your cellphone, or work with your computer, Steve Jobs is there.
