A growing Latino population fueled a recent move to create a second Los Angeles County supervisorial district that would be likely to vote for a Hispanic candidate.
Since Third District Zev Yaroslavsky is being termed out of office, those in charge of redistricting took this district and carved it up in a way that would likely result in a second largely Hispanic district.
Zev Yaroslavsky opposed this move, saying it would break apart constituencies that have learned to work well together over the years.
A recent supervisorial vote of 4-1 sided with Yaroslavky’s position, though it’s possible legal challenges will be brought.
Yaroslavsky is viewed as a possible candidate for Mayor, since Antonio Villaraigosa is also being termed out. Some observers think Yaroslavsky’s opposition to the “second†Hispanic district could hurt him with some Hispanic voters.
Third Supervisorial District Remains Intact — For Now
