LADOT Westside Mobility Plan Study

In response to transportation issues in the Westside, the Los Angeles City Council has requested a comprehensive study to develop potential short term solutions as well as long-term plans to address congestion and mobility challenges within this section of the City. This study will result in the Westside Mobility Plan, a transportation blueprint that will offer strategies for multimodal travel, north-south transit connections and parking solutions over the next 25 years.

A primary objective of the plan is to increase the passenger-carrying capacity and efficiency of the transportation system through multimodal solutions, including transit, bicycle and pedestrian friendly facilities. The Study will require new ways to measure and evaluate the transportation system by considering measures such as a variety of transportation choices, vehicle miles traveled and greenhouse gas emissions in addition to traditional level of service measurements. The Westside Mobility Plan will feature six project sections that include:
Westside Transportation Demand Model
Westside Mobility and Rail Connectivity Study
Westside Parking Study
Coastal Transportation Corridor Specific Plan Update
West LA Transportation Specific Plan Update
Livable Boulevards
The Westside Mobility Plan has launched a website that features a project description (with details on each component of the Study), project study area map, the public outreach plan, a list of upcoming activities and community meetings as well as a Study schedule. The Study website address is www.WestsideMobilityPlan.com.

One of the first components to be addressed in the Westside Mobility Plan is the Parking Study. This comprehensive Study will evaluate the current parking condition within the area and offer strategies to manage future demands. In order to ensure that many considerations and ideas are explored, the Westside Mobility Plan is initiating a multi-level outreach effort to ensure that the public has an opportunity to receive information on the Study as well as provide feedback and commentary on proposed strategies throughout the research and drafting process. The Parking Study will be conducted through 2011.

Over the next several months, the Westside Mobility Plan Parking Study team will be gathering public input to identify the nature and location of existing parking problems in the Westside. The team will conduct presentations to various neighborhood councils, community organizations, and area chambers of commerce to gather input. Information about public meeting dates will be featured on the website in the “Upcoming Activities†section.

In addition, to ensure a cross-section of input from the community, the Westside Mobility Plan Parking Study will host informational booths at selected venues located throughout the area. Westside Mobility Plan booths are scheduled at the following locations:

Mar Vista Farmers Market, corner of Pacific and Grandview
Sun., Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mar Vista Community Council booth

Venice Farmers Market, corner of Venice Blvd. and Venice Way
Fri., Dec. 3 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

First Friday on Abbot-Kinney in Venice
Fri., Dec. 3 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. along Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Westwood Farmers Market, 11011 Constitution Avenue (off Sepulveda at Constitution)
Thurs., Dec. 9 from noon to 6 p.m.

Westside Pavilion
Sat., Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside of Macy’s 3rd level entrance

(Detailed and updated information will be listed at www.WestsideMobilityPlan.com.)

The Study website (www.WestsideMobilityPlan.com) also includes a survey regarding existing parking problems that can be filled out and submitted online. General information regarding the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation can be found at www.ladot.lacity.org

At other pivotal points during the development of the Westside Mobility Plan, there will be additional future opportunities to provide public input.
