The 17th annual Keep L.A. Running charity 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, Kids Dash, and Fun Coastal Bike Cruise will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010, at its traditional site, Dockweiler Beach in Playa Del Rey.
Initiated in the wake of the 1994 Northridge earthquake as an emergency/disaster relief fund-raiser for L.A. County Employees (SEIU) Local 660, Keep L.A. Running 5K Walk/Run, 10K Run, Kids Dash and 10/20 mile Coastal Fun Bike Cruise, has grown into one of the most popular charity road races in Southern California. Over the years, Keep L.A. Running has generated over one million dollars for the Los Angeles County/Special Districts Employee Disaster Relief Fund, which provides a safety net for workers who become victims of disasters or hardships.
Organizers hope to attract more than 2,500 runners, walkers and bicycle riders this year. The races are open to everyone, from the serious runner to the first-time participants. A variety of activities before and after the races, beginning with a pre-race aerobic warm-up led by the Laker Girls and capped by a spirited awards ceremony, the very popular barbecue, music and raffle drawings will complement a super summer Sunday at the beach.
