The most evocative art can often can found in the least expected places. Award-winning photographer Tim Davis eloquently proves that point with his new exhibit, “The Unexpected Landscape,” which makes its Los Angeles debut Wednesday, December 2 at the Gallery at Hilden Hahn.
Davis, whose photographs have often been mistaken for paintings, works in industrial locations and other off-beat treasure repositories. The result is a kaleidescope of graceful lines, coarse textures and sublime color compositions from the ordinarily unseen world.
The Pikes Peak Arts Council and the Durango Art Fair have honored Davis’ work. His photographs have been reproduced for the Mammoth Lakes Westin Hotel in Colorado. Davis also has pieces in Securities America, Inc., Colorado Springs Hyatt Convention Center, Denver Memorial Hospital, Colorado Springs Westin Hotel, Colorado Springs Holland & Hart Law Office and Boulder Express Scripts, Pueblo.
“I have retained the child’s ability to ignore the context of an object,” the Colorado resident said, “as a kid I saw creatures in the textures of my walls and said goodnight to them. I revisit childhood memories of lying in the sweet-smelling grass and getting lost in the clouds.”
Hilden Hahn has represented Davis for nearly a decade. Gallery curator Craig Hahn said, “Tim’s art is always a delight to our gallery visitors and patrons. As people view his work it is clear that Tim is able to inspire the imagination and rekindle our memories of childhood fantasy. It is a reminder to us all that hidden beauty exists around us in the most unexpected places.”
“The Unexpected Landscape” debuts at the Gallery at Hilden Hahn on December 2, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. Complimentary wine will be served. Tim Davis will be present at the reception which runs until 9:pm.
