National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA)
Women artists lack recognition. Even in Janson’s History of Art, used in universities, women artists were not included until 1987 nor were women included in the 1989 edition. This is true of museums and galleries. There is much work to do for women to achieve parity in the world of art.
The Southern California Committee (SCC) of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) held their Annual Membership Luncheon in the hills of Brentwood in the lovely Skirball Museum and
Cultural Center. SCC was founded in 1990 as a volunteer support organization for the
National Museum of Women in the Arts, located in Washington D.C. Established in 1987, NMWA is dedicated to bringing recognition to the achievements of women artists. and nationalities. SCC supports NMWA and works to increase
public awareness of our Southern California women artists.
Additionally, SCC supports and funds art supplies for Para Los Nino’s
Charter School in downtown L.A.
Popular President Kathy Todd accepted the office for another term, and
Diane Braverman and Elllen Seidman chaired the event. The guest
speaker was Pam Balton, Assistant to the President and museum Store
Director of the Skirball.
