Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary school in Brentwood needs your help to get kids ready for the 21st Century! No shock to anybody reading this article, but Los Angeles Unified School District is in a severe budget crisis. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, education is one of the first things to get cut. Despite the cuts, Kenter has always had an amazing faculty, staff and parent base that has kept its students at the top of the academic charts. Now they need all of our help in the community to keep doing it.
Kenter is currently raising funds for their Technology Assisted Instruction program. This program will give each teacher a laptop computer and overhead projector in their classroom, to help enhance the core curriculum and expand the scope of a top-notch educational experience. Let’s face it, our kids are all using computers at home, some of them know more than we do about computers. It is critical that their exposure to computers and technology doesn’t stop at home. This initiative will not replace traditional teaching but rather will enhance the reading and analytical skills of the students.
I truly believe in this program (not just because I am the Gadget Guy) but because I think this helps our teachers do a better job of teaching kids….and I believe that our kids are the top priority. We cannot always control how Sacramento decides to spend our money….but we can in a very direct way impact our local school by donating to this cause and supporting our local school. This is only the beginning…..as the next step, Kenter’s goal will be to get each student their own laptop computer as well (ratio of 2:1). Remember, strong public schools are a win-win for all of us. Not only do they enhance property values, but they create and keep communities, keep kids connected and neighborhoods safe and clean. Please do what you can to help as an individual or business in this community.
