Touted as an event not to be missed this season, an ensemble of L.A.’s funniest female comedians is performing Standup4women in Santa Monica Friday September 23, for the launch of local start-up Tampon Tribe.
The evening promises to be a barrel of female-centered laughs with Sheila Wolf, Denise Vasquez, Hayley Gilbert, and KaliLand already on the bill, and an open mike encouraging all who attend to take to the stage.
“We really want to celebrate all that is awesome about being a woman, about being ourselves, and about embracing everything that we are,” said Tampon Tribe’s Gaby Alves. “We’ve been working to break through this outdated idea that getting your period should be a taboo subject, we want to laugh, enjoy who we are, and spread the message of confidence for all women.”
Launching September 22 on Indiegogo, Tampon Tribe, an online subscription service for organic cotton tampons that also focuses on saving the environment by refusing to use plastics in its products, is gathering steam as one of the hippest and most influential young brands to hit the online subscription market this year.
“With the exit of Dollar Shave Club for a billion dollars last month, investors have their eyes on this emerging brand,” said analyst Douglas Whittier. “Young companies such as Tampon Tribe are changing the commerce landscape and are encompassing more than just products. They are creating followings which can make the company a force to be reckoned with.”
Standup4women hopes to look at the funny side of periods and life in general, with the evening promising, “90 minutes of witty laughs and delightful entertainment with drinks and snacks available, giveaways, and door prizes all part of the excellent evening,” according to organizers.
