Benefit Reading Saturday, May 7

Red Hen Press and the Women’s Center of Los Angeles will hold a benefit reading Saturday, May 7, featuring renowned feminist poets Judy Grahn and Eloise Klein Healy in conversation with up-and-coming contemporary feminist poets Lory Bedikian, Lillian-Yvonne Bertram, Adrienne Christiansen, Nicelle Davis, and Jenny Factor.

“A Celebration of Feminist Poets Who Span a Generation: From the 1960’s to Present Day,” will begin with a champagne reception at 2pm at the Feminist Majority Foundation/Ms. Magazine
The benefit is in support Red Hen Press and the Women’s Center of Los Angeles (WCLA) – two nonprofit organizations dedicated to the shared values, voices, legacy, and impact of women writers.
“We are interested in how our voices are being heard, the voice of the woman in the wall, the woman on the street, the woman whose story has never been told,” said Red Hen Managing Editor Kate Gale. “These writers represent the present and future of feminist writing. They are the forces moving women writers forward into a space where anything is possible.”
“Bringing together women who write the narrative of women’s lives, I think, gives us the opportunity to collapse time and space around the effect these voices and writings have on women’s lives now,” explained Liz Barrett, Executive Director of WCLA.

“WCLA is a community of women dedicated to helping at-risk women and girls find their voices and live better lives. Our volunteers want to help the women and girls we serve author their own stories of success and agency. These writers and writings have impacted the women who are WCLA, are forces beyond the page and change women and girls’ lives,” Barrett said.

Red Hen Press is a non-profit press specializing in the publication of poetry, literary fiction, and nonfiction. Founded in 1994 and now located in Pasadena, the press seeks to publish work of literary excellence, support diversity, and promote literacy in the local schools and community.
Inspired by the women who came before them and the women’s centers around the world, WCLA is a grassroots nonprofit organization which provides services and community to at-risk women and girls for them to heal, grow, and share their gifts with the world.

Next weekend’s event will be held at 433 S Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite under the listing “A Celebration of Feminist Poets Who Span a Generation” and are available in advance for $16 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and for $25 at the door.
