A bomb threat prompted evacuations at Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday, tying up traffic at one of the nation’s busiest airports during one of the year’s biggest travel weekends.
Airport police reported about 2:30 p.m. that a threat had been phoned in to the FBI and officers had responded to the lower level of Terminal 4.
The curbside areas outside the baggage claims of terminals 3-6 were evacuated and traffic was diverted while the threat, which involved a Homeland Security van, was investigated, according to the Los Angeles Airport Police Department.
Police announced about 3:45 p.m. that the threat was unfounded and the evacuated areas were being reopened, although heavy traffic was expected to take a while to work its way through the terminal area.
