“Birdman,” the story of a washed-up actor trying to revive his career, collected a leading 13 nominations today for the 20th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, while “The Grand Budapest Hotel” received 11 and “Boyhood” scored eight.
“Birdman” has been racking up award nominations over the past week, leading the pack of Golden Globe nominees with seven and Screen Actors Guild Award hopefuls with four nods.
The film will compete for best picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards, along with “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Boyhood,” “Gone Girl,” “The Imitation Game,” “Nightcrawler,” “Selma,” “The Theory of Everything,” “Unbroken” and “Whiplash.”
Michael Keaton scored a best actor nominations for his lead role in “Birdman” and will compete with Ralph Fiennes for “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” Jake Gyllenhaal for “Nightcrawler,” Benedict Cumberbatch for “The Imitation Game,” Eddie Redmayne for “The Theory of Everything” and David Oyelowo for “Selma.”
Julianne Moore, considered a strong Oscar favorite for her role in “Still Alice,” was nominated for best actress, along with Jennifer Aniston for “Cake,” Marion Cotillard for “Two Days, One Night,” Felicity Jones for “The Theory of Everything,” Rosamund Pike for “Gone Girl” and Reese Witherspoon for “Wild.”
The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be presented Jan. 15 by the Broadcast Film Critics Association at the Hollywood Palladium, in a ceremony hosted by Michael Strahan.
