Local Brentwood psychotherapist John Tsilimparis pens self-help book on anxiety

John Tsilimparis For those who struggle with managing stress, the answer to alleviating such anxiety may have arrived in the convenient form of a self-help book.

Psychotherapist John Tsilimparis, MFT, who maintains a successful private practice in Brentwood, has authored “Retrain Your Anxious Brain: Practical and Effective Tools to Conquer Anxiety,” a book that will allow its readers to learn about their anxiety in order to prevent it.

Since anxiety is a common problem that a wide variety of people find relevant, “Retrain Your Brain” seeks to lessen anxiety from the get-go and pull all of its symptoms from its roots through a strategic program designed to help readers stop anxiety before it even begins.

With about 20 years of experience within psychiatric units at renowned medical centers like the department of Addiction Medicine at Kaiser Permanente and the department of psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, it is apparent that Tsilimparis is overqualified to speak on the issue of anxiety and its impact on mental health.

“I’ve worked with anxiety disorders of all types,” Tsilimparis said. “Over the years I developed a protocol that helped patients a lot and produced good results.”

Tsilimparis explained that this procedure “naturally turned into different chapters,” one that people could read about and learn to implement into their lives themselves if they could not afford or did not prefer to go to therapy in-person.

As an adjunct professor at the master’s level at Pepperdine University, Tslimparis’ teaching capabilities will undoubtedly amplify one of the main objectives of his book: to educate as a means of prevention.
His formulation of self-treatment utilizes the powerful means of informing and teaching, as it is vital that readers learn about anxiety to prevent it from happening and ultimately “retrain” the entirety of their thought processes.

“An important aspect of this book to remember is that it consists not just a list of coping tools, but techniques of prevention,” Tsilimparis said.

“Retrain Your Anxious Brain” teaches those who are dealing with anxiety how to implement new ways of thinking, alter fixed thoughts and personal belief systems, balance a dualistic mindset, and consciously create a happier and healthier reality.

What will act as an enhancement to the reading process is Tsilimparis’ passion-driven effort behind his work.

“I still enjoy my job after all this time,” Tsilimparis said. “I also love to write.”

Tsilimparis cited the methodology of putting together his publication – “getting creative with this book and drawing from different experiences” – as his favorite part of writing this book.

“Retrain Your Anxious Brain” covers a myriad of topics pertaining to anxiety. Everyone from parents and students to employees and CEOs can discover an area of relevance within “Retrain Your Brain,” as anxiety can be sourced from simply living in the new millennium.

Living in this day and age inevitably means having close to unlimited access to information from all over the world. With such bounds of knowledge so readily available, it becomes much more likely to experience anxiety about controversies and issues like job security and disease. Practical topics like dealing with anxiety and stress in the workplace are addressed as well.

From learning how to control anxiety in the back-to-school season, to discussing seasonal affective disorder, and even to explaining family relationship dynamics over the holidays, Tsilimparis seems to have thought of it all. Readers of all ages and stages of anxiety should be able to resonate with this well-encompassing book.

“Retrain Your Brain: Practical and Effective Tools to Conquer Anxiety” is set to be released on Sep. 30 for $15.95. For more details on the book, visit netgalley.com/catalog/show/id/49718.
