One Book, One City will host a free community read and film discussion with author David Davis Sunday, September 14th from 3 pm to 4:30 pm at the Beverly Hills Public Library auditorium.
Readers, ages 13 and up, are invited to join author David Davis as he shares the stories behind the stories from the 1936 Olympics, the last games held before World War II. Using excerpts from the film, “Olympia”, Davis will:describe how Berlin came to host the Olympics, discuss brilliant and controversial, filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl and her film “Olympia and share fascinating stories of the athletes who competed in this memorable Olympics
“This event is a great introduction to our inaugural One Book, One City program and offers a fascinating look at historical events that set the stage for “The Boys in the Boat” tale,” said Marilyn Taniguchi, Beverly Hills Library Manager.
“Whether you’ve read the book or not, this is a great opportunity to enjoy an interactive author discussion featuring stories and real-life movie scenes of the 1936 Olympics.”
For those who’ve read “The Boys in the Boat,” the David Davis event will deepen their understanding of this momentous historical time. For those who haven’t yet read the book, this program will leave attendees wanting to read more.
Hosted now through October 12, 2014, One Book, One City is designed to bring Beverly Hills together, inspire appreciation for diversity and spark conversations among readers of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities through a community reading the of “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown- a New York Times Bestseller.
